Big League Sign Unveiled At EPR

Ideal race conditions at Exhibition Park Raceway saw some sizzling miles on Saturday with one being Putnams Glory's win in the feature of the day.

Starting the day off though, young Phil Hodgson had the fans churning as another Putnam pacer drove on to a new record. Royal Putnam lowered his mark to a sparkling 1:58 mile in the very first race of the afternoon with a dominating six-length win. Ron and Megan Fowlie own the five-year-old son of Southwind Balsam.

Putnams Glory, meanwhile, won a slim victory in the top class as she edged pacesetter Cecils Express at the wire. The time of the mile was a life's best 1:58 for the Force Of Life mare, who is owned by Paul-Emile Bernard.

Top gun of the day was Gilles Barrieau with four-wins on the program. That puts the perennial dash winning champion at 118 on the year in the Maritimes.

Racing executives unveiled the new Big League track record sign on the afternoon with young Dale Spence Jr. on hand among his many supporters. Big League owns the pacing record for EPR at 1:53.4 and is the fastest horse ever on a New Brunswick track.
