Saves My Ashes was 6-5 on the toteboard, and he proved to be 6-5 the best in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs
.
With Robert Shepherd at the controls, the Ely Iversen-trained four-year-old son of Andover Hall-Ashleys Carousel used a strong stretch kick to post the 1:58.3 decision over a track listed as “Good” with a two-second allowance.
Save My Ashes settled into sixth while Zorgwijk Fortunate rolled the field through panels of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:29.1. The leader tired in the late stages of the mile, and that left the door wide-open for challengers from the backfield.
Save My Ashes began a first-over rally before the mid-way point, and he was second on the outside at the three-quarter pole [even though he’s not charted as being parked at either points in the mile]. A :29.1 final frame was more than enough for Save My Ashes to seal the deal by a little more than a pair of lengths. Abbey Road C enjoyed a ground-saving trip and would up third while Brawn Seelster finished with a rush to grab the show dough.
Iversen holds the papers on Save My Ashes, who now boasts a 5-2-3 record in 25 trips postward this season. The 10-time surpassed $200,000 in lifetime earnings with the tally.
