Gold Elims To Angostura & Random Destiny

Two-year-old trotting fillies slugged it out in a pair of OSS Gold Series eliminations at Windsor Raceway on Tuesday evening, with Angostura and Random Destiny

taking home top prize in their respective $40,000 assignments.

Heavily favoured Angostura wasted no time marching to the top from her post seven starting spot for Trevor Ritchie, who went gate-to-wire with the Dan Creighton pupil. The Angus Hall-Peluso miss whacked out splits of :28.2, :59.1 and 1:30 en route to posting the 2:00 decision. Rebelious Royalty rallied late to grab the runner-up spot and Warrawee Lassie was third.

It was the fifth win of the season in seven starts for Angostura, who is owned by Danterra Racing Stable of Strathroy, ON. The $20,000 payday bumped her bankroll to $186,664.

A perfect pocket trip helped Random Destiny turn in a career-best clocking of 1:58.1 in the second elimination. The Ken Warkentin-Front Porch Swing miss was plugged into the pocket by trainer/driver Riina Rekila, who was quite content to stalk pacesetter Wilsonator through fractions of :29.1, :57.4 and 1:27.2. Rekila tipped Random Destiny out in the late stages of the mile and filly drew away to win by more than two lengths over a rallying Isthatallyagot and Windcross.

Esa Lahtinen of Campbellville, ON owns the freshman, who has put together a 3-2-0 record in her first eight starts. She lifted her lifetime earnings to $104,900 with the win.

The top four finishers from each elimination and one of the fifth-place finishers will return to Windsor for next Tuesday’s final. Here’s how they’ll line up on the starting gate:
