As the temperatures chilled in the Edmonton area, Custard Lite solidified a victory in the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace featured at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino on Friday evening (September 27).
Moving from third in rein to Mike Hennessy, Custard Lite confronted pacesetter Thats It (:28.2, :57.4, 1:27.1) approaching the third quarter mark and drew away by 2-1/2 lengths down the stretch for the 1:54.1 victory. Blue Grotto (Brandon Campbell) came on to finish second in front of Thats It (Philip Giesbrecht).
Custard Lite, who was a popular winner at Century Mile one week ago, returned $7.50 while stepping up to the Open level as the 5-2 second choice to fourth-place finisher Tajmeallover.
The four-year-old Custard The Dragon mare is campaigned by trainer Rod Hennessy and local owner Lorne Duffield. She has hit the board in 14 of her 24 starts this year, with tonight's effort being her fourth win.
