Athletic Putnam and driver Walter Cheverie tracked down race leader Minor Wisdom (Norris Rogers) at the head of the stretch and held off a mad scramble to the finish to win the Sunday feature event at Red Shores Summerside.
The time of the mile was 1:57.3. Outside the Wire (Gary Chappell) rallied for second while Smiley Bayama (Ron Gass), who was sitting sixth turning for home, closed hard to complete the triactor ticket.
Athletic Putnam is co-owned by Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley and Donald Callbeck of Kensington, PE. Biggar handles the training duties on the pacer for his fifth win of the 2015 campaign.
Cheverie had another big day on the track winning two more races. The veteran pilot has teamed up the Long Run Exploration in the Drive for Charity promotion to raise money for Joy Riders. The promotion continues until the end of October and the team has already raised over $1,000.
Tymal Tyme, in line to Brian MacPhee, won the trot class in 2:03.4 for owner Tessa MacKinnon of Souris and trainer Cindy MacDonald.
Gary Chappell had a driving triple on the program while Kenny Arsenault clicked for the double.
