It turned out to be a battle of the McClures in deep stretch in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs, and when the dust settled it was son over father
in the featured event.
Bob McClure guided Celebrity Cowboy to a 1:55.3 score over Southwind Vavoom, who was driven by Bob’s father, Lormer McClure.
Marians Man rushed to the lead and supplied the field with panels of :28 and :58 before coming under pressure from the first-over Celebrity Cowboy. The race favourite prompted Marians Man to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.1 before edging past that foe. Celebrity Cowboy dug in late to fend off a late rush from Southwind Vavoom, who wound up finished a game second. Rev It Now took home third prize.
Trainer Chad Milner co-owns the five-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Keystone Nora with Staffan Lind and Celebrity Farms of New York. The victory was the trotter’s seventh of the season and the 19th of his career. His lifetime earnings currently sit at just over $225,000.
