Slight Increase In Morrisville Sale Average

A total of 207 yearlings were catalogued, with 186 of them going through the ring during Monday’s Morrisville College Yearling Sale in New York

.

The sale, which was represented by 36 of the top sires in harness racing, including yearlings by first crop sires Equinox Bi, RC Royalty, Sand Vic, and Straight Up Lindy, offered the largest selection of New York breds at one auction site. As well it is the largest selection of yearlings eligible to the rich $19 million New York Sire Stakes.

The average price for this year’s auction was $8,563, which was a slight increase from last year’s average price of $8,477.

The sale topper at this year’s auction was the American Ideal-BJs Sunshine filly Zellweger Blue Chip. Consigned by Blue Chip Bloodstock and purchased by Casie Coleman of Cambridge, ON, Zellweger Blue Chip sold for $42,000. She is a half sister to this year’s Woodrow Wilson winner, Fashion Delight (1:51 - $298,350).

Blue Chip Bloodstock also consigned Monroe Blue Chip, the second highest-priced yearling to go through the ring and the highest-priced trotter to sell at today’s auction. The daughter of Conway Hall-Lydia Blue Chip went to Claude Huckabone, Jr. of Utica, NY for $38,000.
