Kennel Buddy took care of business in Monday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at Grand River Raceway, and that was music to the ears of players that backed him at odds of 6-1.
Paul MacKenzie got away sixth with Kennel Buddy while Seeyou Men fired to the front and laid down panels of :28.3 and :58.4. Kennel Buddy was on the move in the second quarter, and he worked his way to the lead in the backstretch. He put up the three-quarter call in 1:28.2 before marching home in :29 to win by 5-1/2 lengths over Severus Hanover in 1:57.2. Third prize was earned by Rainbow Gold.
David Dowling trains the six-year-old son of Ken Warkentin-Bernice Daniece for owner Allan Neal of Grand Bend, Ont. It was the second straight win for the 23-time winner who boosted his lifetime earnings to $217,554.
