Auciello Holds Slight Lead At Mohawk

With Mohawk Racetrack's 2015 season of harness racing quickly coming to a close, meet-leading trainer Carmen Auciello was able to gain a little separation in the standings with back-to-back winners on the Friday night program.

Entering the Sept. 25 card, Auciello held a two-win lead over Richard Moreau (53-51) atop the track's leaderboard and he doubled that margin as Delightful Hill and Barockey won their respective assignments.

Tom Hill's homebred three-year-old filly Delightful Hill ($21.20) defeated older mares Marquise De Sarah and Victoria Semalu in a $25,000 conditioned pace, closing from third over to prevail by a quarter-length in 1:51.3.

Wheelhouse Racing Stable's six-year-old pacing mare Barockey ($8.30) then held off slight favourite Wildcat Hanna by three-quarters of a length to win the following $11,000 class in a season's best 1:52.4 mile.

Jonathan Drury drove both of Auciello's winners.

Moreau, the nation-wide win leader for 2015, tried to counter in the next two races, but his trainee Mileys Big World finished three-quarters of a length behind the Rob Fellows student Marlee B ($6.90) and then Hope For Paddy missed by a nose to Miss Coco Luck ($63.90) from the Blake MacIntosh stable.

Sylvain Filion leads all drivers for wins with 156 while Doug McNair ranks second with 124 after both reinsmen added one victory to their respective totals on the Friday night card.

Live racing continues at Mohawk on Saturday, Sept. 26, with first race post time set for 7:25 p.m. Mohawk's final race dates for the 2015 season are Monday, Sept. 28 and Tuesday, Sept. 29 before racing shifts to Woodbine Racetrack.
