Casino Workers Unionize

It has been reported that workers at the OLG Casino Point Edward have voted in favour of unionization.

An article by Blackburn News states that previous attempts for worker unionization at the casino had failed, but that the workers have now voted 72 per cent in favour.

The report has quoted a representative with Unifor National as saying that the possibility of privatization at the casino has spurred workers to unionize.

In the article, Unifor National Rep. Bob VanCleef has said that “the main concern, especially around privatization, is (that) people are feeling that there might be a clearing of jobs – a reduction in jobs – and not having a say in how any of that process is going to take over.”
