HRNB: Track Wouldn't Be A Racino

An official with Harness Racing New Brunswick has been quoted as saying that the recently-proposed Saint John racetrack and video lottery terminal parlour which is part of a memorandum of understanding between HRNB and a First Nation development corporation should not be characterized as a racino.

A report by the CBC has cited HRNB Executive Director Jeff Malloy as saying that the proposed undertaking, which would include a First Nation's cultural centre, is "not a racino" and that it would be "more similar to Fredericton (Fredericton Raceway)."

Malloy was also cited as saying that meetings between HRNB, stakeholders and the government are ongoing.

The report also concludes by stating that the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corp. was short of its revenue targets for 2011 by more than $9.4 million.
