The streets of Quebec City were glowing pink this past weekend, as Sophie Desroches and her nine-year-old Windleaves Dreamer raised money for Breast Cancer and promoted awareness of the standardbred

.

Desroches, who along with Simon Allard, has owned Windleaves Dreamer for five years, was parading the horse, along with others, on Sunday afternoon.

“I wanted to raise money for breast cancer and show people the versatility of racehorses,” she said. “I want to encourage horse owners to give their horses a good life after their racing careers are over. Standardbreds make wonderful pleasure horses.

“It’s important to show that standardbreds are extraordinary horses, and I don’t mind dressing up in a costume to show them off,” she said. “In an ideal world, the owner of horses would have enough of a heart to offer a second life for theses animals. I have more than 150 families which would be ready adopters of these horses after retirement.”

Hats off to Sophie Desroches. What a wonderful way to raise awareness of the breast cancer decease that has affected so many women, and to promote a retirement plan for these wonderful equine athletes. BRAVO
