Dexter Dunn sent Warrawee Michelle first-up after the half to track down leader Walspea and capture the $186,620 Grade 3 Miss Versatility Final, presented by Allerage Farms, highlighting the Little Brown Jug undercard on Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Delaware County Fair.
Warrawee Michelle dropped in third and held position through :28.1 and :56.4 splits until shifting out on the third turn and pushing up to attack Walspea (Yannick Gingras) through three-quarters in 1:24.1. In a final-quarter slugfest, Warrawee Michelle battled ahead late for the half-length victory in 1:52.3 in the event for older trotting mares. Miracle Maven (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) finished third.
Warrawee Michelle, a five-year-old Walner-Sound Check mare, scored her first win in eight starts this year for trainer Ake Svanstedt and owners Ake Svanstedt Inc., Santandrea Inc. and Young Guns. She is now 11-for-38 lifetime. The win price was $4.60.
