Vernon Downs invader Southwind Falcon is in the midst of a sensational stretch at Saratoga Casino Hotel, scoring his fourth consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 25).
Ron Harp trains and drives Southwind Falcon, who is enjoying a breakout campaign in 2019. In a $7,250 trotting event on Wednesday, the three-year-old son of Conway Hall drew the rail and was subsequently the public’s 2-5 betting favourite. Despite getting off to a bit of a slow start, Southwind Falcon wound up second-over approaching the half-mile pole as two rivals slugged it out toe-to-toe throughout the first lap. The duelling leaders tired and Southwind Falcon swooped right by to assume command before drawing away late to score in 1:58.2.
It was the fourth win in a row and eighth of the season in just 16 starts for Southwind Falcon. The Vernon-based trotter is owned by Diane and Venetia Harp of Oneida, N.Y.
Live racing continues at Saratoga on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 26) with a first post time set for 12 noon. There will be a Pick-5 carryover of $3,884. The Pick-5 begins in the matinee’s first race.
