Driver Mike Saftic joined elite company by surpassing $100 million in career earnings on Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The 56-year-old reinsman entered Monday’s action just $5,895 away from the significant milestone with six drives on the 11-race card.
Saftic earned $6,180 in his opening four drives of the evening, surpassing the $100 million mark with a third-place finish behind five-year-old pacer The Loan Ranger in the fifth race.
A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Saftic has been a member of the Woodbine driving colony for more than three decades and his streak of consecutive $1 million seasons currently sits at 29.
Saftic, who was inducted into the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame in 2016, has won 5,284 races during his career. His career-best total for wins in a season is 246 in 2000, while his highest-earning season is $6.7 million in 2002.
