Austin Sorrie was unseated from Ciao in the stretch of the ninth race at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Sept. 24 after the three-year-old colt veered into the infield.
Ciao turned for home with the lead while being challenged by Oceanographer (Samuel Fillion) but suddenly bore in and was unresponsive to Sorrie’s attempts to guide him back on course. The sulky wheel contacted a pole in the infield, causing Sorrie to fall from the bike and the horse to get loose. No other horses were involved. Oceanographer went on to win the race.
Ciao reportedly sustained no serious injuries in the incident. Sorrie drove in the next race.
The Prospect Series preliminary rounds concluded during the card as two-year-old trotters contested four $10,000 divisions of Leg 5B.
Lmc Uncle John ($39.10) kicked off the action with an 18-1 upset in the first division for males, winning by a head in 2:00.2 for driver Ondrej Gois. Kyle Bossence trains the winning son of Muscle Mass-Hornby Gem, who broke his maiden with the victory.
Castellano ($2.10) took his second series tally with a 2:00 effort in the second male split. The son of Muscle Mass-Hawaiian Sweetie was two lengths the best for driver Samuel Fillion and trainer Jean-Francois Maguire.
Pink Gin Fizz ($18) brushed and crushed in the first filly contest, scoring by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:58.1. Paul MacKenzie drove the daughter of Muscle Mass-Red Light Lady for trainer Carl Jamieson.
Kinder Trouble ($28.20) cut the mile in the second division for fillies for a 2:02.1 tally in line to Scott Coulter. The Muscle Mass-Kinderunbelievable filly scored by 1-1/4 lengths for trainer Guy Gagnon.
The three-year-old Prospect Series finals are set for Oct. 2, opening night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, followed by the freshman finals on Oct. 6 at the same track.
