Rotten Ronnie rallied wide down the backside and prevailed in a photo finish to take Inverness Raceway's Winners Over Pace on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 24).
Parked from the outside post six through a :28.1 quarter in the afternoon's $1,800 featured finale, Rotten Ronnie and driver Redmond Doucet landed in fourth turning in front of the grandstand then followed the cover of Solid Silver (Rodney Gillis) from the :56.3 half-mile mark into the backstretch. With Rotten Ronnie swinging three-wide off Solid Silver's cover at three-quarters in 1:27.1, those two battled past popular pacesetter Good Friday Three (Travis MacLean) in the final turn and took off in the stretch with Custards Dungeon (Zachary Mullins) closing in between. In the end, Rotten Ronnie prevailed by a neck over Solid Silver in 1:57.2 with Custards Dragon a half-length back in third.
Now five-for-eight this season, Rotten Ronnie recorded his 20th career win for Doucet and co-owner Andy Stewart. Lennan MacIsaac trains the five-year-old son of Malicious who has earned more than $90,000 in purses lifetime.
Rotten Ronnie paid $4.90 to win as the 7-5 second choice. He completed a Doucet Daily Double that paid $9.60 as Windemere Best Man won the penultimate race on the Sunday card for the track's meet-leading driver.
