Trevor Ritchie was back to victory lane Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, but it was a visit in which he was decked out in street clothes as opposed to the black and white silks that fans at the Campbellville oval grew accustomed to seeing time and time again.
Ritchie, who was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2019, bought in as a partner on the $90,000 purchase from the 2019 Lexington Select Yearling Sale and he and his partners have now celebrated back-to-back wins with the late bloomer.
Komodo Beach, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Bob Daer, got away fourth for driver J Harris. The duo were backed up to fifth at the half, and then got shuffled to seventh as the field raced around the final turn. Still last at the head of the lane, Harris shook loose with his charge and Komodo Beach used a :26.4 closing quarter to win by a length over Finkle Is Einhorn in 1:53.
Daer Williamson Ritchie, David McDuffee, Robert LeBlanc and In The Gym Partners share ownership on the two-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Imagine Dragon. The victory improved his record to two wins from four starts and his bankroll climbed to $17,820 with the victory.
