Southwind Ozzi Climbs Weekly Poll

Little Brown Jug winner Southwind Ozzi climbed the rankings in this week’s Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown Poll.

Southwind Ozzi jumped from No. 10 to No. 5 in this week’s edition of the poll (the colt was the only horse in last week’s top 10 in action).

Tall Dark Stranger, who is now six-for-six after winning the Metro Pace, joined the rankings at No. 10. Forbidden Trade dropped out of the top 10.

Shartin N remained the unanimous No. 1 for the fourth consecutive week, followed by Greenshoe, Lather Up, and Bettors Wish. Atlanta, Real Cool Sam, Gimpanzee, and Captain Crunch followed Southwind Ozzi and joined Tall Dark Stranger in completing the top 10.

The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, which runs weekly through November, does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.

Rankings based on the votes of harness racing media representatives on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

I would like to know why Captain Crunch didn't race last week. He was eligible to the Jug; his connections had earlier stated that they don't like racing him on half-mile tracks, so when he wasn't entered, I assumed that he would race on Fri. at Hoosier Park in The Jenna's Beach Boy instead. He wasn't entered in that race either.
