Preferred Mania In London

A five-pack of Preferred classes highlighted Monday’s 12-race card at The Raceway at The Western Fair District, with Winning Dream and CIS Buckeye taking home top honours in the card’s featured events.

Winning Dream survived a first-over trip en route to capturing the $8,000 Preferred 2 for pacers. The five-year-old son of Shanghai Phil-Western Sara popped to the outside on the way to the half and he just kept grinding away for Denis St. Pierre. The gelding used a :29.2 closing panel to secure the win by a neck over the tempo-setting favourite, Clic K. Bestinthebusiness was third.

Sent off at odds of 5-1, Winning Dream improved his 2013 record to 4-0-1 from 16 starts with the victory. The Victor Puddy pupil, who is owned by Gordon Mc Donald and Christopher Boland of Ottawa, ON, boosted his lifetime bankroll to $204,987 in the process.

CIS Buckeye made a bold, three-wide move in the late stages of the mile en route to notching a 1:59.1 victory in the $8,000 Preferred 2 for trotters. Alfie Carroll pulled the trigger on the Keith Cullen trainee going to the three-quarter pole and the gelding used his :29.4 closing speed to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Hamdalla in 1:59.1. Race favourite Amigo Loco set the speed before tiring and fading to finish third.

The five-year-old son of Ilooklikemymom-LRs Peanut, who was sent off at odds of 8-1, won for the eighth time this season and for the 22nd time in his career. James Morency of Windsor, ON owns the career winner of $111,650.

A trio of $5,000 Preferred 3 classes were also offered on the Monday program, with Franceschetti (1:56.2), Mariner Seelster (1:57.1) and Bridge On The Kwai (1:59.4) prevailing in their respective assignments.
