Silverado Dream Pockets Preferred

The Pierre Bovay-trained and driven Silverado Dream converted from the pocket to score an 8-1 upset over pacesetter Mystical Ryan and favourite Star Ruffnready in Friday's featured $13,000 Handicap Trot at Rideau Carlton Raceway

The six-year-old gelded son of Fortuna Winner-Jina Fortuna followed Mystical Ryan and driver John MacDonald through fractions of :27.3, :58 and 1:26.3 before pulling the pocket in the stretch surging ahead to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.2. Star Ruffnready and Rheo Filion advanced first over from fourth before tucking into the three-hole and shooting up the rail to show.

Silverado Dream paid $19 to win. The victory was his fifth in 22 starts this year and pushed his 2011 earnings over the $50,000 mark for owner Nicole Bovay Gurtner of Rigaud, Que. The 25-time career winner now has $273,247 stashed away in lifetime earnings.
