Dismissed at 5-1 by the bettors at Flamboro Downs, Western Silk was as good as gold in Thursday's $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old pacing
fillies.
Even money choice Fbs Terror (Scott Zeron) was on top of the field by the quarter, reached in :27.3. Mark MacDonald had Western Silk out and rolling from fifth around the turn swooped to the lead before the half, reached in :56.1. Bay Girl (Mario Baillargeon), second money at 6-5, made the challenge but was unable to get no closer than a half-length of the leader at the 1:25.1 third quarter station. MacDonald and Western Silk opened up and hit the wire some two lengths to the good in 1:54.4 with Fbs Terror second and Bay Girl grabbing show.
