Trevor Williams sent three winners to the track on Saturday (Sept. 23) at The Loop for a training hat trick, including Irish Melvin, who dominated in the $10,800 four-year-old stakes, winning by 8-3/4 lengths over his field of seven other pacers.
Blake Piwniuk and the four-year-old Irish Melvin settled into second as Jay Dees Scooter (Clayton Braybrook) took the field to the opening panel in :30. Irish Melvin made a swoop to the front and never looked back as he posted two more panels in 1:00 and 1:31.2 en route to a 2:03 triumph. Go On Bow Bow (Marc Fillion) finished second and Skys Little Spunk (Richard Remillard) was third.
Owned by J David Mooney, Irish Melvin won his first race of the season and fifth career tally. He paid $3.20 to win.
In addition to Irish Melvin, Williams won with Hf Flower ($2.10) in 2:01.4 and Oriental Express ($5.10) in 2:02.4. Piwniuk drove all three to victory.
P L Jackson dictated the tempo in the $5,000 Open Pace to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 2:01.3.
Dean Rey took the Arthur Rey trainee through panels in :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:31 before using a :30.3 last quarter en route to victory. Treasure Horizon (Paula Mason) was second and Pure Addition (Tyler Grundy) finished third.
Jodie and Travis Cullen co-own the 10-year-old Mach Three horse as he earned his eighth seasonal win and 34th career win. He boasts $440,638 in lifetime earnings.
