Losing stride as the 6-5 choice against the top class last week at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Hey Livvy paid amends and took the $36,000 Preferred Trot by open lengths as the 4-5 favourite in 1:51.3.
Positioned fourth to a :27.2 first quarter, Hey Livvy sat off the speed set by P L Jill powering by Mass Fortune K to take the early lead. Driver Trevor Henry then angled Hey Livvy off the pegs up the backside and swept to the lead before a :55.1 half. From there the five-year-old Donato Hanover mare lifted flight, trotting to three-quarters in 1:22.2 and gliding through the lane to win by five lengths over P L Jill. Only Take Cash closed from last for third.
Trained by Jeff Gillis for owners Blue Chip Bloodstock, Ellen Ott and Trevor Henry, Hey Livvy won her seventh race from 15 starts this season and her 19th from 54 overall, earning $374,363. She paid $3.70 to win.
