Lucky Jim came from behind late to upend Lolique and win the featured Open Trot at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The race carried the night’s top purse of $50,000

Lucky Jim, the six-year-old superstar gelding hailing from the Erv Miller barn, was sent to the front end by driver Andy Miller early, only to watch as Lolique aggressively took over on the front stretch.

Lolique set scorching fractions and was able to shake everyone else in the field, which included standout mare Buck I St Pat, who went off stride on the back stretch. But Lucky Jim stayed within range, eventually tipping out in the stretch to get up to win by a half-length over a game Lolique. Calchips Brute was far back in third. The winning time of 1:51.4 was one of the fastest trotting times ever at Pocono despite sloppy racing conditions.

Lucky Jim, sired by S Js Photo and owned by David and John Prushnok and William Gregg of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, won for the third time in 12 races this year. It was his 28th career victory, and his lifetime earnings now stand at $1,891,422.
