Phone Terror put away the popular pacesetter to win this week's $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Saturday night at Fraser Downs.
Favourite Prairie Illusion and driver Jim Marino left from their outside assigned post position and led the field of six through fractions of :27.1, :56 and 1:24.2 before being confronted by Phone Terror at the top the stretch.
Serge Masse sent the 7-2 second choice first over from third at the third quarter mark and she kicked home in :28.3 to pull away for the two and a half length victory in 1:53.1.
Just Fiction and Bill Davis finished second off a two-hole trip while longshots Legal Suspensory and Michael Bourgeois came in third. Village Janus, driven by Rod Therres, finished fourth while Prairie Illusion faded to fifth.
Masse trains and co-owns the four-year-old Western Terror mare with Melissa and Claudine Masse of Edmonton, Alta. The 1:53.1 clocking was her fastest out of five wins this year.
The consistent mare has won more than half of her 40 starts while banking $207,565 in purses.
Phone Terror paid $9.10 to win.
