After making a miscue in the Peaceful Way Stakes, Pure Ivory Series champion Rose Run Xcentric opened the morning set with an 11-length romp in 1:57 in the lone two-year-old trotting qualifier for trainer Rob Fellow. The Kadabra-Drink The Wine filly looped Muscle Mass colt Bar Brawl after a :28.3 opening quarter and clocked middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27.2 before taking off with Jody Jamieson in tow. A $17,000 yearling acquisition at the Standardbred Horse Sale, Rose Run Xcentric has banked $50,150 to date with two wins from seven starts for owners Brookbro Racing and Chris Bell.
The fastest mile from a pair of pacing freshman events was put forth by Battle of Belles Stakes winner Love That Smile, who moved from third for Louis-Philippe Roy to collar the pacesetting Google My Chrome at the 1:28.3 third quarter mark and out-finished that Betterthancheddar gelding with a :27.3 final quarter for the one-length triumph in 1:56.1. The Sportswriter-Smileallthewayhome filly has a 3-1-1 record with $115,403 banked through seven starts for trainer Rene Bourassa and his co-owners M&S Racing Stable Inc., Gilles Caouette and Marc Gelinas.
Millionaire Forbidden Trade tuned up with a 1:56.4 tour of the Campbelleville, Ont. oval, home comfortably in :28, in rein to Bob McClure for trainer Luc Blair and Determination. A runner-up in the Maple Leaf Trot on the first Saturday in September, the five-year-old Kadabra-Pure Ivory stallion was scratched sick his next start from last Monday's Preferred at Mohawk. He has drawn post seven for this Friday's $200,000 Caesars Trotting Classic at Harrah's Hoosier Park.
Three-year-old pacing filly Bet On Becky was the fastest winner from the eight qualifiers, prevailing in a two-horse breakaway by a neck over Northern Storm in 1:53.1, getting up with a :27 final frame. Jamieson was aboard the Bettors Delight-Western City filly for the David Menary stable.
Back in Ontario after his Gold Cup & Saucer venture in P.E.I., the James 'Roach' MacGregor Consolation winner Mikey Camden scored a front-end qualifying win in 1:54 with Roy in the bike for trainer Corey Johnson
