Riveting Rosie Ties Track Record

Riveting Rosie went through some serious struggles in the early stages of her sophomore season, but in the last few weeks she’s regained some of the form that helped her earn an O’Brien Award as a rookie.

Fresh off her second-place finish in the Elegantimage Stake final against some of the North America’s finest sophomore filly trotters, the daughter of Muscle Mass-Rose De Vie Stena rocketed to the lead in her $105,000 OSS Gold Series division at Flamboro Downs and went gate-to-wire for the tandem of driver Paul MacDonell and trainer John Bax. She zipped through panels of :27.4, :58.3 and 1:27.4 before finishing off her foes with a :29.1 kicked en route to the 1:57 score. Sweetie Hearts, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite, recovered from an early miscue to finish 6-1/2 lengths in arrears. Magic Feeling was a distant third.

The 1:57 performance earned Riveting Rosie a share of Flamboro Downs’ track record for three-year-old trotting fillies. She matched the mark set earlier by Condi Lane (2008) and Miss Paris (2012).

Parkhill Stud Farm, Don Allensen, J And T Stable Newmarket and John Hayes share ownership on the eight-time winner who is now 2-for-12 this season. The $224,180 she’s banked this season has helped lift her lifetime earnings to $692,793.

Kate Smith pulled off an 11-1 upset in the second division, winning her $105,000 assignment in 1:59.3 over a track rated ‘good’ with a two-second allowance. Anthony MacDonald mapped out the come-from-behind score with the Herb Holland trainee, who hauled down tempo-setting Margie in the final strides. Margie, who whacked out panels of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4, was half a length back in second with Mayberry recovering from a slow start to finish third.

Unraced as a rookie, the homebred daughter of Cornaro Dasolo-Frannies Ridge won for the fourth time in 16 starts this season for owners Carolyn Mac Isaac, Serafino Barone and Awesome Acres Stbds. The lion’s share of the purse more than doubled her purse earnings to $80,500.

On the undercard, it was the tandem of driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Isabelle Darveau scoring a pair of Preferred wins on the card.

Russian Kisses took the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 for pacers in 1:57.1 over Shellace and Insincerity, and two races later that trainer/driver duo captured the $7,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 for pacers in 1:55.3 with Astute over Get Around Town and Machapelo.
