A trip to Kawartha Downs proved to be a profitable one and memorable one on Tuesday for trotting mare Mystical Starlight, who equaled the track record in the
$10,000 Preferred.
Mystical Starlight, in rein to Gord Brown, drew away to win by more than three lengths in an effort that matched Kor Mel Lil Lady’s track record for older trotting mares.
Brown got away fourth with the five-year-old daughter of Credit Winner-Miss Lovely, who watched Americanadian (Billy Davis, Jr.) throw down a :28.2 opening quarter before giving way to Celebrity Abs (Aaron Byron). Celebrity Abs rolled through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:25.4 before being overtaken by Mystical Starlight, who popped out on the way to the half.
Mystical Starlight uncorked a :29.3 final frame, and that was more than enough for the Darren McCall-trained mare to defeat Im Fabulous (Doug Hie) and Celebrity Abs.
Glen Hobin and Ross Bradley of Stittsville, ON share ownership on Mystical Starlight, who won for the 15th time in her career while pushing her cash stash to $228,079. She has put together a 7-4-4 record from 29 trips postward this season.
