Trainer Jim Marino and driver Brandon Campbell opened the Fraser Downs fall meeting with a bang on Thursday evening (Sept. 19), teaming up to win six of the 11 races on the opening-night card.
The pair swept the three maiden events that began the card, teaming up with Strateontilmorning ($6.10, 1:59.4), Major Custard ($4.90, 1:58.4) and Hotpieceoface ($3.70, 1:59.1) before taking the next two races with Crystal Dragon ($20.50, 1:57) and Cantbeatacheetah ($8.60, 1:54.2). Marino and Campbell capped their six-bagger in the finale with Roaring Home ($10.20, 1:54.2).
In the evening's $12,000 feature, an optional claiming pace for fillies and mares, Cusdmagicdragon ($11.20) overcame stalled flow to record a 1-1/4 length win over Chocolate Terror and Sell A Bit N in 1:53.4. The four-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon stalked comfortably behind early splits of :26.3 and :55.4 before vacating the pegs up the backstretch and lifting to a mid-stretch lead. Scott Knight drove 20-time winner Cusdmagicdragon for trainer Kelly Hoerdt, who shares ownership with Blair and Erna Corbeil.
