Dashing to the lead and slowing the tempo, Tahiti Seelster finished the wire job with a one-and-three-quarter length victory in the featured $12,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace as harness racing returned to Fraser Downs for its 2018/19 meet on Thursday (Sept. 20).
Serge Masse took control with the odds-on favourite as Mach And Roll Baby drafted from the pocket through a :26.4 opening quarter. Tahiti Seelster faced no challengers to the half, timed in :57.1, or to three-quarters, timed in 1:26. The Nelson Craig-trained five-year-old mare by Up The Credit turned into the stretch with a two-length lead and cruised to the wire in 1:55.2. You Name It, sitting third throughout, overtook Mach And Roll Baby for second while Her Own Land swooped from the back for third.
Owned by Nelson Craig and Richard Craig, Tahiti Seelster won her sixth race in 11 starts this season and her 17th in 52 overall, earning $128,229. She paid $3.20 to win.
