Life Signature scored his first victory against Alberta's Open pacers as held off Keith Clark's sophomore star First Class Horse and the Travis Cullen stable standout Who Doesnt for an 11-1 upset on Sunday at Century Downs.
Brandon Campbell trains and drives Life Signature and sent the six-year-old gelding to the lead from post three in this week's $12,500 Open. Life Signature carved out fractions of :28 and :56.3 before being confronted by Who Doesnt.
Assigned the outside post five in the short field, 3-5 favourite Who Doesnt swept up from last down the backstretch and battled alongside the leader past three-quarters in 1:25.3 and into the stretch.
Life Signature managed to keep Who Doesnt at bay and held off First Class Horse, who tracked in the two-hole and then fanned outside for the stretch drive. Life Signature prevailed in the three-across finish, edging out First Class Horse by a neck in 1:54, with Who Doesnt settling for third. Life Signature paid $25.70 to win.
The son of Life Sign was claimed on Aug. 9 for $10,000 by Mike Dicks of Carvel, Alta. He has since won three of his five starts in the Campbell stable, earning $18,155. Lifetime, the pacer has won 17 races and $193,282.
