One can only wonder what one nicknames a horse with the name Oldfriendskentucky. It is a mouthful to say, and the name was said over and over again as Herbie Litt took the Whosurboy gelding to the front, and never looked back in winning Leamington Raceway's $5,000 Preferred 3 Pace on Saturday afternoon.
Owned by Horsewhispererusa Stable of Windsor, Ont., the five-year-old pacer led the field through fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:28.2 before kicking home in 30 seconds flat in 1:58.2.
Alfie Carroll and Rob Sparling Jr. each won two races on the 10 race card.
Once again, Donnie Rankin thrilled the crowd for the second week in a row. Last week he drove six winners, and this week the thrill came when he showed how easy a Maritimer could call a race. He called the fifth perfectly and opened with "...and aaawwwaaaaay they go...!"
Racing continues every Saturday and Sunday to October 26 with post times at 1:30 p.m.
