Choco Sun Takes Green Acres; Super Classic Wins Smith Trot

Choco Sun led a Chocolatier sweep of the top three spots of the $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes – Green Acres and Super Classic won the $38,500 Charles I. Smith Trot on Friday, September 20 at Freehold Raceway.

Choco Sun, driven by Jim Meittinis and trained by Oriano Torstensson, captured the Green Acres Final for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings in 1:59.3, finishing a nose ahead of Chocolate Day and a length and a quarter in front of Holiday Spirit. All three are sons of Chocolatier.

The seventh race longshot, Choco Sun paid $54.20 to win, picking up his second straight victory. He has been first or second in four of five starts, banking more than $21,000 for Eirik Djuve of Sola, Norway.

Muscle On In, the betting favourite, broke stride, finished seventh and was placed eighth on a disqualification.

Super Classic, a son of Muscles Yankee, romped to a six and a quarter length tally over Dagget (by Chocolatier) and Bouncer (by Muscles Yankee) was nine and a quarter back in third in the $38,500 Charles I. Smith for New Jersey-sired three-year-old trotters.

The Jim Doherty trainee, driven by Eric Abbatiello, trotted the mile in 2:00.2.

William Augustine of Hammonton, New Jersey owns Super Classic, who picked up his second straight win and pushed his career bankroll to $73,953 with three wins, one second and four thirds in 22 starts.

The Charles Smith, contested before the betting card, is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

In a three-horse $7,000 division of the Green Acres for two-year-old trotting fillies, also took place off the betting card, Worldrecordsweeper (by Muscles Yankee) finished a neck ahead of Ill Bring Dessert (by Chocolatier) in 2:03.1 Muscle Pump Queen (by Muscles Yankee) was third by 15-1/4 lengths.

Kevin Oscarsson drove Worldrecordsweeper, who is trained by Jim Oscarsson and owned by Jokikunnan Tila Oy of Finland.
