Custard Lite Reaches At Elora

It didn't take long at all for Custard Lite ($9.10) to find success again after leaving Western Canada. In just her second Ontario start, she circled four-wide to collar favourite Larjon Legacy in Wednesday's (Sept. 2) featured $8,500 Preferred 3 for distaff pacers at Grand River Raceway.

Trainer-driver Paul Davies angled the five-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon out of mid-division and third-over into a live flow while Burn My Villa (Scott Young) completed the first circuit in :57.2. As Burn My Villa gave way to sustained pressure from Manhattan Again (Brett MacDonald) early in the second circuit, Travis Cullen fanned 2-1 choice Larjon Legacy three-wide and Custard Lite angled wider yet, setting up a contentious battle through the final turn.

Larjon Legacy gained a narrow lead midway on the turn, but Manhattan Again dug back in and Custard Lite reached her best strides after cornering for home. The Alberta invader prevailed over Larjon Legacy by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.2, with Born A Dragon (Phil Hudon) emerging from astern to take third.

Davies shares ownership of 20-time winner Custard Lite with Paul Sanders.
