With the inside post advantage, Mellow Jenny took the lead off the gate and never looked back en route to victory in the $22,600 Heat Wave Series Final on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs.

Fresh off a win in last week's elimination round, Mellow Jenny and driver Darryl Munro carved out fractions of :29.4, :59.2, and 1:28.3 before holding off Maranatha Hanover (Paul MacLean) and Rockin On Over (Mario Rivest) for the half-length triumph in 1:58. Mellow Jenny paid $11.70 to win as 9-2 third choice.

Trainer Philippe Belanger and Talbot Trail Racing Stables co-own the homebred four-year-old daughter of Million Dollar Cam, who is now 12-for-22 this year with $51,435 earned in purses.

Three-year-old Armbro Deuce gelding Pass The Deuce and driver Jason Ryan won the $10,000 consolation over stablemate Twin B Turbo (Justin Turcotte) for trainer Paul Ruhl and owner James A Ruhl. He paid $7.50 to win as the favourite.

The Heat Wave Series is a conditioned claiming event. The specific condition is claiming $10,000 with allowances for non-winners of four races or $50,000 (fillies and mares five races or $60,000) lifetime as of August 11, 2012.

Trainer-driver Mario Rivest won three of Saturday's nine races.
