The Midwest Region 11-horse Billings Trot at Scioto Downs on Friday, September 4 will be beneficial for the participants, especially those that finish near the front-end
.
Because of the large field the points that the drivers earn will be greater than usual and with the top two point leaders on the sidelines it affords a great opportunity for the participants to move up on that regions leader board.
Neither Kelly “Sky” Walker, whose 94 points leads the Midwest, nor runner-up Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford, currently with 92 points, will be driving over the fast five-eighths mile oval when the starter says go that evening.
However if either “Tar Heel Tom” Williams, third place with 83 points or fourth place Dave “Linemaster” Ehrenberg, with 62 points, finish on or near the top they will be vaulted into the thick of things. The former will handle Bogey N Bacall and start from post position No. 2 while the latter has Sam Tookover from the pole position.
The Billings Trot at Scioto Downs has brought out an interested crew of drivers all of whom ‘know their way around the racetrack'.
In the final analysis the way each trotter gets away from the gate in the bulky field and then racing luck from there will undoubtedly play a big role in who’ll be first under the wire. And with the talented amateurs that are participating in the contest anyone of them is capable of making it to the winner's circle.
The Billings Trot is slated as Race 2 on the 10-race Scioto Downs Friday night card. First post will be at 6:30 p.m.
