White Tiger posted a hefty upset in the featured $24,000 condition trot on Tuesday (Sept. 19) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The resume of the field showed a dense field as all entries were career earners of more than $280,000. James MacDonald and the Dominic Gladu trainee went off at odds of 12-1, the fifth choice, in the class of eight trotters.
A miscue by the favourite and second choice in the first half left the race wide open. Pikachu Hanover, the third choice on the board, and Doug McNair led to the opening panel in :27.1 from the outside as Franks Angel (Bob McClure) took position along the pylons. White Tiger got away sixth from post three. Pikachu Hanover was able to clear before the :56.1 half and White Tiger moved up into fifth. While Pikachu Hanover dished out the three-quarters in 1:25.1, MacDonald tugged on his right line to send White Tiger first over. Pikachu Hanover had a three-length advantage over White Tiger in the stretch, but White Tiger used every bit of racetrack to pass the leader and keep going to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:54.1. Free Willy Hanover (Rick Zeron) closed sharply to take second and Pikachu Hanover settled for third.
Owned by Thestable White Tiger Group, the seven-year-old Muscle Massive gelding earned his fourth win of the season from 24 starts and his 22nd career triumph. He moved his career earnings to $467,936.
White Tiger paid $26.10 to win.
