September is Cancer Awareness Month and the horse racing community in Newfoundland and Labrador is aware and giving back, to a total of over $5,000.

Proceeds raised over two live race programs earlier in September will be donated Saturday, September 20 to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and the Newfoundland Candlelighters Association, for children battling cancer. The two worthy charities will be presented the donations by local MHA John Dinn as well as representatives from the Newfoundland Harness Horse Owners Association (NHHOA) and St. John’s Racing & Entertainment Centre.

The last race day of the season will be host to a stake race for two and three-year-olds, sponsored by Meridian Farms.

"St. John’s Racing & Entertainment Centre and the NHHOA would like to thank all the volunteers and patrons who helped make these events and the whole season a huge success," said Brett Whelan, General Manager of St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre. "We all look forward to another wonderful summer meet next year."
