An afternoon of steady drizzle couldn’t keep the excitement away from Hanover Raceway Saturday night. The owners and staff from Hanover Rona were in attendance for Rona night at the races, where one lucky fan walked away with a $2,500 home renovation project
.
The winner was Bea Davidson of Paisley, ON, who says she just finished building a new house and will now get to use her renovation to add a few extras to the new house.
The highlight race of the night was the Rona 10th for non-winners of $4,500.
The field included several local horses including two horses from Walkerton, one from Teeswater, Owen Sound and Seaforth.
It was Dimes Dividend (Stuart Sowerby) who got off to the fastest start for trainer Brian Felice of Orangeville, ON. Dimes Dividend hit the quarter in :27.1 and the half in :56.3. Oakley Seelster, owned by Clayton Walmsley of Walkerton and trained by Walkerton native John Kennedy, got away second and enjoyed the pocket trip past the three-quarters in 1:26. He then pulled out on Dimes Dividend down the stretch and prevailed by a length in 1:55.2. The six-year-old son of Western Maverick was driven by Bruce Richardson of Arthur.
Hanover Raceway plays host to Advantage Hanover Travel night next Saturday, as one lucky fan will win a $3,000 all-inclusive Caribbean vacation for two.
Post time at Hanover Raceway next Saturday is 7:15 p.m. Hanover has just three race days left on its schedule. October 2 and October 9 will feature Saturday afternoon races, with a post time of 1:30 p.m.
