Formal Affair added his name to the track record book at Truro Raceway on Sunday thanks to an electrifying mile of 1:53.2 in the $7,500 Johnny Conroy Memorial

.

The clocking was the quickest in the history of the half-mile oval for an older pacing gelding, erasing the former mark of 1:54.2 which was shared by Henschke A and Outlawpositivcharg. The performance also matched Dunachton Gale’s all-age track record.

Formal Affair, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, sat second for the opening quarter of the mile before blasting to the front and laying down middle splits of :56.1 and 1:25 before using a :28.2 final quarter to seal the deal for trainer/driver Gary MacDonald. Runner-up Proven Lover (Gary Chappell) was 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner, with Outlawpositivcharg (Darren Crowe) finishing third.

Ronnie and Dale Rennie of Elmsdale, PEI share ownership on the five-year-old son of Real Desire, who extended his winning streak to three-in-a-row with the tally. It was the seventh triumph of the season for the career winner of $84,245.
