Driver Jim Marohn Jr. guided four winners at The Meadowlands on Saturday night (September 17) as the track brought the curtain down on its abbreviated four-card September meeting.
Marohn got rolling right at the start of the night, piloting O U Sexy Guy ($4.80 to win, 1:56) to victory lane in the first race conditioned pace.
Macs Jackpot ($3.20, lifetime-best 1:51.4), fresh off a pair of mediocre efforts in the Metro at Mohawk Racetrack, flexed his class muscles to score in the fifth race, a $10,000 division of the Kindergarten Classic for two-year-old colts and geldings on the pace.
The 34-year-old’s third victory came behind El Bloombito ($6.00, 1:50.2) in another conditioned event in race nine before Marohn got his fourth score in the 13th and final with Carmens Best ($4.20, 1:51.2).
Marohn drove five favourites on the program and won with four.
A CLOSE SECOND: Brett Miller won three races on the program while Vincent Ginsburg and Joe Bongiorno had two apiece.
MORE KINDERGARTEN WINNERS: The evening's other Kindergarten Series winners were Lady Juno (Ginsburg), Jennys Terror (Vic Kirby), and Northwest Yankee (Miller).
SCINTILLATING SCORE: Stay Up Late ($3.00, 1:50.1) was a powerhouse three and three-quarter-length winner in the $17,500 Dash For The “G” Notes on the pace. The five-year-old son of Artiscape cut out all of the fractions – reaching the half in a sizzling :53.3 while pressured – and won easily for a second straight start for driver William Mann and trainer Al Annunziata.
THE RUNNERS ARE COMING: Thoroughbred turf racing comes to The Meadowlands for a 14-day meeting that runs from September 28 through October 19. Post time on Opening Night is 7 p.m.
IT ALL COMES DOWN: Harness racing returns to the Big M on October 21 with Breeders Crown eliminations the featured action. The following night, the track will have a 40-year anniversary celebration.
