Veteran horseman Marcel Barrieau solidified his position atop the Hippodrome de Quebec trainer standings with another victory Sunday, capturing the $15,000 final for Quebec-sired two-year-old pacing colts and geldings
with Somehowsomeway, owned by Hudson Standardbreds.
Barrieau also drove the heavily-favoured son of Shanghai Phil, who held off 37-1 shot Reve Ki Pass by a head in 2:00.
It was Barrieau's 10th training victory of the 2011 season in Quebec, which wraps up next weekend. No other trainer has won more than eight. Chantal Duval joined that group Sunday with a pair of winners, thre-year-old trotting filly Nuriev Dream and three-year-old pacing colt Winning Dream.
Sunday's other $15,000 final, for Quebec-sired two-year-old trotting colts and geldings, went to heavy favourite Decret Justiciale, a son of Justice Hall trained and driven by Denis Filion for owners Jules Sigler and Danielle Levac. He trotted the mile in 2:02.1, establishing a new freshman trotting track record.
