After defending his title in the Jennie & Joe Chippin Memorial Pace last weekend at Fredericton Raceway, Formal Affair did the exact same thing in the $7,500 Johnny Conroy Memorial Invitational Pace during Sunday’s harness racing card at Truro Raceway
.
With Mark Bradley in the bike, the inside starter took control of the seven-horse field as the wings of the gate folded and never looked back as he cruised past panels of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:26.4 en route to a season’s-best victory in 1:54. The six-year-old gelded son of Real Desire-Little Black Dress finished two and three-quarter lengths ahead of pocket-sitter Oakmont (Danny Romo) while Outlawpositivcharg (Terry Gallant) came in third.
Formal Affair paid $3.20 to win as the odds-on favourite. The Dave Rose trainee now boasts six wins, two seconds and two thirds on his seasonal record with $28,270 earned for owners Ronnie and Dale Rennie of Elmsdale, P.E.I. Among his wins include the Exhibition Cup Invitational, the Christine Deagle Memorial Pace, the Inverness Invitational Pace and the Jennie & Joe Chippin Memorial Pace.
Susan Karrel's homebred six-year-old gelding Dreams Matter won the $1,225 Winners Over Handicap Pace earlier on the card in 1:57.2 for trainer-driver Danny Romo. The son of Matter Of Money-Reason To Cheer prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Rumble Cheeks (Ernest Laffin). The win was his second in a row and third of the season in 11 starts.
