JK Special made her move on the way to the half mile marker and driver Walter Cheverie charged her home to hold off a let surge from Grace And Harv by a nose to win a $3,063 fourth leg division of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Pacing Series for aged mares in 1:58.1 Sunday night

at Red Shores Summerside.

Abby Best was sent to the front by Marc Campbell before driver Mike Stevenson, aboard Grace And Harv, pulled the pocket and took over the lead on the way to the opening quarter in :28.1. But Abby Best was having no part of it. The 10-year-old veteran charged back to the lead and laid down middle fractions of :58.3 and 1:29 before fading in the stretch to settle for third place.

Six-year-old Cammibest mare J K Special is owned, trained and bred by Joseph Smallwood of Stratford, P.E.I. She has recorded wins in three earlier legs of the series along with one second place finish.

In second division of the Andrew, Onehotvett, under the command of Mike Stevenson, went the distance in gate-to-wire fashion in 1:58.2. The Walter Simmons owned Goliath Bayama mare held off a late closing Totally Priceless and Brodie MacPhee while PL Betterway and Leonard Myers finished third.

Wade Sorrie trains the six-year-old mare, also a winner in two previous legs.

The series will wrap up on Saturday, October 15 at Charlottetown Driving Park with a $10,100 (added) final.

Sombrero Blue Chip won the evening’s feature in a sizzling in 1:56.2 for trainer Darren Trainor and owner Jennifer Doyle of Vernon River, P.E.I. Mike Stevenson did the driving and recorded his third winner of the night. Life Savior and Marc Campbell was second with Blue Meadow Willie and Robert MacInnis closing for third.

Corey MacPherson also recorded a driving triple on the card.
