The Atlantic Breeders Crown Host Committee announced on Thursday, Sept. 17 the Atlantic Canadian harness racing families who will be recognized for their achievements and contributions to the industry.
The families will be honoured during the upcoming Atlantic Breeders Crown Weekend at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Oct. 3-4.
The Bill Lanigan family from Cambridge, P.E.I. will be celebrated for many successes in their long association with harness racing.
From New Brunswick, the family of George “Sticks” Frizzell will be saluted for their long and varied involvement.
For Nova Scotia, the family of the late George McGean and his sons, Wayne and Bruce, will be recognized for their 70-plus years of racing success.
Newfoundland and Labrador will not be honouring a family this year.
Presentations to the three families will take place at the Atlantic Breeders Crown banquet at the Top of the Park on Saturday evening, Oct. 3.
Memorabilia from each of the families will be on display in the ‘Memory Lane’ room in the 1888 Lounge during the weekend.
