Whiskey Tax: Long Time Between Drinks

Published: September 17, 2018 11:16 pm EDT

Heading into his Monday evening assignment (Sept. 17) at Woodbine Mohawk Park, it had been nearly two years since Whiskey Tax had last tasted victory.

That changed on Monday, however, thanks in large part to some heads up rating by teamster Bob McClure.

Leaving from Post 6, McClure put the pedal down early with Whiskey Tax who shot to the top and whacked out an opening quarter in :27.3. He proceeded to lead the way through middle splits of :56.2 and 1:26.2 before kicking home in :29.4 to win by a half-length margin over Cresurrey in 1:56.1. Dottie was third.

Trainer Tom Durand co-owns the 10-year-old son of Revenue S-Bourbon Belle with his wife, June, and partner Allan Smith. It was the 19th lifetime tally for the classy campaigner who lifted his lifetime earnings to $1,085,610 with the win.
