Undefeated High Bid is still perfect thanks to his winning effort Thursday evening at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The two-year-old trotting son of Neal, bred by Meridian Farms, won his seventh start in-a-row for driver Walter Cheverie and trainer/owner Joe Smallwood.
High Bid took off from the starting gate rolled the field through fractions of :31, 1:03.2 and 1:25.1. He used a :30-second closing quarter to win by six lengths in PEI Colt Stakes action. BJ Classic was second, with Cardigan Jack third.
Cheverie and Smallwood were also successful with J K Blaze taking the three-year-old trot assignment in 2:01.3. It was his third victory in-a-row for the son of Northern Bailey and breeder William Andrew, Calgary, AB.
The other winners in the PEI Colt Stakes were Paymenowpaymelater (Marc Campbell) in 2:01.2 and Rustico Duchess (Kenny Arsenault) in 2:06.3.
The PEI Colt stakes, one of the longest running programs in Canada, returns Saturday with a double-header at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
