Northfield Park’s leading driver, Ronnie Wrenn Jr., had a banner Monday nigh at the office thanks to a seven-win performance at the Ohio half-miler.
Wrenn’s Winners included T Red ($4.80) in race two, Parthenon ($2.60) in race three, Waterhouse ($3.40) in race four, Green Olives ($3.40) in race seven, Hallin ($6.40) in race eight, Thiswayorthehighwy ($2.60) in race 10 and My Boogie Shoes ($3.60) in race 11.
Monday’s victories increased Wrenn’s 2013 win tally to 487, ranking him as the winningest driver in North America so far this year. Dave Palone (465), Corey Callahan (462), Tim Tetrick (461) and Bruce Aldrich, Jr. (423) complete the top five.
“It would really be something to win a national title,” said Wrenn. “The way things stand at this point of the year I would always have regretted if I didn’t go after trying to win it.”
Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. has been driving a torrid schedule between Northfield Park, Raceway Park and Scioto Downs. However, since Raceway and Scioto have concluded their 2013 schedules, Wrenn is looking towards Colonial Downs and possibly The Meadows.
Twenty-seven year old Wrenn began driving in 2008 and has since garnered 1,095 career victories and is in excess of $4,000,000 in purse earnings.
“It is way too early to tell how things will end up this year. My lead is small and there are a lot of good drivers out there,” Wrenn added.
Although seeking the 2013 driving title will require a lot of work and travel Ronnie says he will enjoy the pursuit.
“I just like to win races. As unbelievable as this sounds, the purse really doesn’t matter to me. Whether it’s a 150 per start or an Open, it just feels good to win and make people happy.”
