Standardbred driver Hugh Woods made a presentation of $350 to the Canadian Cancer Society Saturday on the final day of racing for the season at Cornerstone Raceway in the city.

Woods said it was "a way to give back to a good cause."

Woods went on to explain his family has faced cancer on a personal level.

"A few years ago I had one of the biggest races of our life when my wife developed breast cancer," he said, adding "... It was the biggest race we've won."

Leinita Woods was quick to point out her husband also had cancer.

"Let's not forget you had cancer before, too," she said.

Woods said they wanted to do something in Yorkton so he made a decision to donate 10 per cent of earnings at the local meet from Im Phat, a seven-year-old mare owned by his daughter Hughanne Woods.

The donation was matched by the Yorkton Exhibition Association to make a total of $700.
